Leica's newest camera can shoot underwater
Many Leica fanatics, or dry-land camera users, would completely lose it at the thought of accidentally dropping their kit into water – let alone placing it under intentionally.
Behold the Leica X-U, the brand new waterproof, shatterproof camera from Leica, created to defy the elements. Inviting outdoor fans and snorkelers to discover the wonders of breathtaking underwater worlds – at depths of up to 15 metres, and up to 60 minute dives! Not only this, the practical underwater snapshot button enables it to capture the wonders of the underwater world at the press of a button.
Inside the X-U is a large 16.5-megapixel APS-C sensor, and on the front of the camera is a bright Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH lens.
The top plate and the control dials are made from aluminium, and the body is covered in an anti-slip thermoplastic elastomer material. The rear LCD screen has a protective cover, while the buttons are integrated into the body — there’s no gap for sand or water to sneak through. The battery and memory card slots are also protected with a double locking system.
The true character of the compact and lightweight Leica X-U is revealed by its exceptional picture quality. For its compact dimensions, the camera features an impressively large image sensor with a high resolution of more than 16 megapixels. The APS-C format CMOS sensor guarantees extraordinary brilliance, natural colour rendition, and exceptional resolution of the finest details, even in low light. The result: pictures in true Leica quality.
More than just for shooting stills, the Leica X-U can shoot 1080p and 720p video at 30fps in MP4.
