DJ Titus has been at the forefront of Urban/Hip Hop music in Singapore for decades, and his distinctive beats have been sought after by clubs all over Asia, including in Australia, China and India. He is best-known for the unique spin he brings to the decks. From the time he began his DJ-ing journey in the 1990, he set himself apart, pioneering serious Hip Hop and R & B sounds in clubs like T.G.I.F and Caesar’s.
In 1996, DJ Titus hit the airwaves with Singapore’s first Hip Hop show – Black Market, which broadcast on 91.3FM and brought the best in Hip Hop, R&B and Funk and Soul into the mainstream. Before long, the show became synonymous with the man himself.
DJ Titus has since taken his tunes to clubs like Top Ten, Rootz, Jamz 2000, Lox and Tha Wu Bar. In 2000, he put a new spin on things when he opened his own club, Lox, and placed it firmly on the party map by hosting concerts by the likes of Christina Milian and The Lighthouse Family. Until recently, he helmed the decks as resident DJ for Attica for six years.
His brand of music has gone beyond Singapore. Besides taking to the decks at some of the region’s top clubs, he was also sought after to play at the official after parties for Ice Cube and Bone Thugs N Harmony (Perth), opening for The Far East Movement (Singapore) and has even played alongside legends like Sean Paul, Pitbull, Eve, Kardinall Offishall, Jay Sean and Akon (Australia). He also anchored The Black Eyed Peas After-Party (Singapore).
DJ Titus, with his deep knowledge of the scene and what gets a crowd going, has also managed and trained DJs and entertainers. In 2003, he founded The DJ Institute, which provides professional DJs and formal DJ training, organizes and manages events, functions as a booking agent specializing in urban acts. It was behind shows such as the Lil Jon concert at Wavehouse, sentosa and a host of other acts with his affiliated partner, Ashley Rattan (On Point Promotions – Australia)
When not hard at work, he still has music on his mind – making his own mixes and checking out the latest in music technology. He has often been known to jibe: “Like a Hindu, you have to be born a DJ”, and in the case a DJ like Titus, you may find yourself believing that to be true.
Spinning at 5.30pm – 7.30pm
Ever since he stepped into the now defunct Dbl O and Rebel Boutique Club, DJ Shai knew what he wanted – To be one of the best DJ’s in Asia. With his unmatchable work ethic and discipline, he has fervently worked his way into a realm of DJs that others can only dream of. In being crowned champion of the 2012 Live Mix Maestro competition, he received the recognition that he fully deserved.
He has played at many well-known clubs and venues: Zouk Singapore, Bar Rouge, Wan Night Club, and currently holds residency at 1 Altitude, Bang Bang, CE LA VI Singapore and Yang Club Singapore. As well as having played in Australia’s hottest spots (Alumbra, Embassy, Marquee Sydney), which adds on to his long list of places he has graced his talents with.
Through his years of experience, he has developed his skills so much so that transitions and crowd reading are things that come effortlessly to him. Coming from a background of hip hop, R&B and latin, DJ Shai delivers sets with a unique blend of both old school and new school. He never fails to leave partygoers in awe and wanting more – even after the club lights have been turned on.
There are few that can refute the claim that DJ Shai is one of the more reputable names in the Singapore nightlife, and is an embodiment of just what the AOS Collective is.
