DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel.com, organisers of the 11th edition of the Underwater Competition Series, recently announced the winners of the two constituent contests, Our World Underwater 2016, one of the world’s biggest underwater photo and video competitions, and DEEP Indonesia 2016, the signature component of Indonesia’s prestigious diving, adventure travel and extreme sports expo.
This year’s competitions attracted thousands of entries from all over the world, with entrants submitting their images in a wide range of contest categories, including macro, wide angle, animal behaviour, animal portraits, reefscapes, divers, surf, compact cameras, and even commercial, conceptual and fashion. The judging panels comprised various experts from the underwater photography and dive publishing worlds, including Keri Wilk, Alex Mustard, Berkley White, Amanda Cotton, Daniel Botelho, Aaron Wong, Joe Tepper (DivePhotoGuide.com), Abi Smigel Mullens (Wetpixel.com) and Alice Grainger (Scuba Diver AustralAsia and Asian Diver).
The Our World Underwater 2016 “Best of Show” image was an amazing shot of humpback whales by Fabien Michenet (above), while the DEEP Indonesia 2016 “Best of Show” image was a wonderful capture of mating toads taken by Mathieu Foulquié. Check out the other first place images in the gallery below.
